Job Summary:

The SMH Level 4 RN NICU is a highly skilled Registered Nurse specializing in neonatal intensive care at a Level IV center, providing advanced treatment for critically ill or premature newborns. The role involves delivering expert nursing care, monitoring patient telemetry, and collaborating with the healthcare team to ensure optimal outcomes. Strong clinical skills, certification in NRP 8th edition, and at least two years of relevant experience are required. The position demands flexibility to work rotating day, evening, and night shifts, including weekends, holidays, on-call, and charge responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

• Provide specialized nursing care to critically ill or premature newborns in the NICU.
• Monitor and interpret telemetry and other vital signs to assess patient status.
• Administer treatments and medications as prescribed and according to protocol.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in electronic medical records, including Epic systems.
• Serve as charge nurse as needed, managing unit workflow and staff coordination.
• Participate in on-call and callback duties to support unit staffing and patient care.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license in New York State.
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) 8th edition certification.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
• Minimum of two years of nursing experience, preferably in neonatal or critical care settings.
• Telemetry monitoring experience.
• Ability to work with electronic health record systems, with Epic experience highly desired.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience with Epic electronic medical record system within the last year.

Special Considerations:

• Work includes rotating day, evening, and night shifts.
• Must be available for weekends, holidays, on-call, and callback duties.
• Charge nurse responsibilities may be assigned based on unit needs.
• Work environment is a specialized Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
